get calls

from
institutions

? said Tom

Sustainable
Management in
2003. ?They
wove
principles of

said
DeLongpre. ?It
was an amazing

DeLongpre says
that the best
part about her

with the
students.
?Their world

said
DeLongpre,
?It?s inspired

December 2008: The UN Decade

(DESD), which
was proclaimed
by the General
Assembly in
2002 and
launched in
2005, will
mark the
mid-point of
DESD at the
end of 2009.
Since the
inception of
the Decade of
Education for
Sustainable
Development
(DESD), the
international
community has
discussed the
needs;
fundamental
concepts; and
objectives of
ESD, while
recognizing
its key
importance for
future
generations.
For the
mid-point of
the Decade,
UNESCO and its
Member States
will have
opportunities
to discuss the
achievements

in the
implementation
of the DESD.

environmental

This media kit

Sustainability
Communications
: A Toolkit
for Marketing
and
Advertising
Courses: Sustainability
is an
expression of
the issues
that
production and
consumption
patterns will
have to
address to
build a
society where
individuals
and the
environment
are respected.
Numerous
public and
private actors
have already
committed
themselves to
this path. For
them, the
issues of
sustainability
? which are at
once ethical
and strategic,
political and
economic ? are
also issues of
communication.
From marketing
to
advertising,
from corporate
communication
to public
awareness
campaigns, the
messages of
sustainability
are embodied
in practices
that are
increasingly
well-establish
ed. These are
something for
marketing,
advertising
and
communication
professionals
to reflect on,
and also to
learn from.
This CD-ROM is
part of that
process of
reflection and
learning.

EDUCATION FOR

OECD
COUNTRIES:
OPPORTUNITIES
AND
CHALLENGES...
The
Environment
and School
Initiative
(ENSI) created
by the OECD in
1986 pointed
to profound
rethinking and
restructuring
of
education...
--Awareness
?It is not
simply
awareness of
the natural
environment
but also of
social,
economic,
cultural and
other
dimensions
--The ENSI
concept also
implied an
education
paradigm shift
from the
transmission
of knowledge
to
experience-bas
ed curricula.
?This required
the
development of
?dynamic ?
(rather than
passive)
skills of
students
expected to
discover and
study the
environment
and find
solutions by
themselves,
e.g. Taking
initiative,
Capacity to
discern the
relevant
dimensions of
a situation,
Independence,
Commitment,
Readiness to
accept
responsibility
