  • Whole Health Source: Eicosanoids and Ischemic Heart Disease, Part II: Interesting theory that explains the "French paradox," namely that despite a high rate of smoking and a high-fat diet, the French have the lowest rate of heart disease among the industrialized Western nations. The theory? That heart disease is proportional to in-tissue highly unsaturated fatty acids derived from n-6 fats, that n-3 fats compete with n-6-fats for conversation to HUFAs and subsequent storage in tissue, that the French, preferring animal fats such as butter and duck fat to vegetable oils, consume a low amount of n-6 fats and a higher amount of n-3 fats, and, implicitly, that having low in-tissue n-6-derived HUFA rates is more strongly correlated with heart disease (inversely) than is smoking and overall fat intake. Interesting.

  • Prostacyclin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Prostacyclin (or PGI2) is a member of the family of lipid molecules known as eicosanoids.\n As a drug, it is also known as "epoprost enol".[1] The terms are sometimes used interchangeabl y Prostacyclin (PGI2) chiefly prevents formation of the platelet plug involved in primary hemostasis (a part of blood clot formation). It is also an effective vasodilator. Prostacyclin&# 039;s interactions in contrast to thromboxane (TXA2), another eicosanoid, strongly suggest a mechanism of cardiovascular homeostasis between the two hormones in relation to vascular damage.

  • Diet Zone: Barry Sears is a biochemist becomes important for having created and diffused the diet zone, through his famous book. The purpose of the diet is to obtain daily calories at this ratio : 40% carbohydrate, 30% protein and 30% fat. Barry Sears use the term ?The Zone? to indicate the hormone balance. When the level of insulin is normal, and the gluconate is not too high, then specific anti-inflammat ory chemicals (types of eicosanoids) are released, which have similar effects to aspirin, but without downsides such as gastric bleeding.
