  • Eastern Shore gets $2M grant to revive the Bay scallop - Norfolk Virginian-Pilo t, 7/1/09: On June 30, the U.S. Commerce Department announced that a habitat-restor ation project for eight coastal bays on Virginia?s Eastern Shore will receive $2 million in 2009 federal stimulus funds to create 24 acres of oyster reefs, 100 acres of submerged aquatic vegetation beds, and release over two million adult and juvenile Bay scallops into existing vegetation beds. The Eastern Shore project is one of 50 habitat-restor ation projects (out of over 800 proposed) approved for a total of $167 million from the Commerce Department.
