  • Trends in In-Hospital CPR in Elders - Journal Watch (General): Comment: According to these results, rates of in-hospital CPR and survival after CPR have remained steady, whereas a rising proportion of hospital deaths are preceded by CPR. One explanation, offered by the authors, is that improvements in delivery of CPR have been neutralized by more use of CPR in people who are unlikely to survive; however, we have little evidence that in-hospital delivery of CPR has improved in recent years. Some of the racial distinctions in this study are consistent with other research that shows greater use of life-sustainin g interventions (e.g., gastrostomy tubes, mechanical ventilation) near the end of life among blacks than among whites. ?
