Although we so often hear about the rise of Islamic fundamentalism , it is Christianity, with more than 2 billion adherents worldwide, that is both the world's largest?and in some regions the fastest-growin g?religion. And most of that expansion is taking place in the developing world. In parts of Africa and Asia, the flowering of Pentecostal, evangelical, and indigenous forms of Christianity is bringing believers into contact?and often into conflict?with Muslims. This latest development has far-reaching consequences for world politics, especially in Africa, and particularly in the Sudan, Somalia, and Nigeria.
