  • Lesbian marriages in India | despardes.com: The law is silent on gay marriages, and same-sex couples are taking advantage of this loophole to perform marriage ceremonies and live together. However, they are vulnerable to arrest because homosexual sex is a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Since the law against homosexual sex was enacted under British colonial rule in 1861, fewer than 50 people have been convicted, mainly because judges tend to be lenient and authorities are reluctant to stir sexual controversy.
  • Vanasco: Lesbian marriage raises eyebrows in India | Gay News Blog | 365gay.com: Some days back the two girls shocked their families by expressing their desire to tie the nuptial knot. The families initially resisted the decision but surrendered to the will of their children. Vimla?s brother Amar told scribes that the two were married at a religious place in Bhadrawati a few days back. Presently, Kamla is living at Vimla?s home in Padoli.

  • Spartan pederasty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Similar to the case of the young men, it was expected that women engaged in romantic relationships with girls as well. As it is the case with the life of women in general, sources are much rarer in the case of the institutionali zed lesbian love. Plutarch writes, "And though this sort of love [i.e. pederasty] was so approved among them, that the most virtuous matrons would make professions of it to young girls, yet rivalry did not exist..."

  • thelastgoodnam e: Someone at metafandom has a wicked sense of humor: The first asks, "In what way is [bromance] not slash?" And the second answers, when it's lesbians! I mean invisible people. No, wait, I mean Boston Marriages. Which are peopled by invisible lesbians, except when they're female non-sexual romances. Or something. Because while men really can't be friends because the sex part gets in the way, women do not do such things. Winning quote: "the only difference was that [they] were fucking each other." Um. New word of the day: non-trivial.

  • The Comics Journal: Interviews: If you're going to be picky about definitions, you'd have to define Alison Bechdel as a "lesbian cartoonist,&qu ot; but to me she is simply a good cartoonist. You don't have to be a lesbian to like her comics. Her characters are real -- I saw some of them this morning at the place where I sometimes eat breakfast -- and she has the ability to make the reader hear her character' ;s voices, even though they're on paper in speech balloons. In a better world, she would already be a well-known mainstream creator. If you haven't read any of her Dykes to Watch Out For series yet, you're missing out on a positive life experience.

  • Facebook Rejects Lesbian Film Ad: We're not gonna deny that the advertisement to the right would certainly be described as "sexy,&qu ot; but it's hardly lewd or inappropriate. So why exactly did Facebook reject this ad for 'And Then Came Lola,' a film targeted at a lesbian audience?

  • LiLo & SamRo: Read all about it - Los Angeles Times: Yet the celebrity magazines have kept the stories coming. Mainstream editors used to be squeamish to the point of erasure when it came to unconfirmed same-sex relationships. Unless a star was willing to say, "Yep, I'm gay," as Ellen DeGeneres so famously did on the cover of Time in 1997 -- and as a trickle of others have too in years since -- print publications (including this one) have generally employed their own form of don't ask/don't tell when covering gay or bisexual celebrities who have not come out via press release or some other explicit declaration.
