  • POrtable Dodgy Filesystems in Userland (hacK): Once upon a time, there was project called podfuk. It used nfs, and nfs sucks. On one sunny night, its author had nothing better to do, and he started creating fake cache manager for coda. It worked in two days, and it worked pretty good. At least, ugly nfs was gone.

  • NFS using Random Ports - Ubuntu Forums: RFC 2623 * NFS clients SHOULD attempt to bind to ports < 1024. In some cases, if they fail to bind (because either the user does not have the privilege to do so, or there is no free port < 1024), the NFS client MAY wish to attempt the NFS operation over a port >= 1024.

  • Craic Computing Tech Tips: Setting up NFS mounts in Linux (Fedora 6): 6. Bind the exports directories to the real directories by editing /etc/fstab and adding lines like this where /proj/backups is the 'real 9; directory and /exports/backu ps is the linked directory that will actually be shared by NFS. /proj/backups /exports/backu ps none bind 0 0
  • HOWTO: Play DVDs from a Linux computer over NFS without ripping: 3) Get my modified copy of dvdreadfs. I had to change it to put the DVD files inside a VIDEO_TS directory, otherwise you can't NFS export in a way that the PCH will recognise properly. Modified dvdreadfs
  • http://www.dae moninc.com/dvd readfs/README: Dvdreadfs is useful for making video dvds readable by any application not just those that are linked already with libdvdread. For example, I use dvdreadfs to mount my dvd drive and then share that mount point over samba to other computers. Dvdreadfs will only keep the DVD device open while someone is using files in its mount point so it's pretty safe to keep it mounted all the time.
  • Share Device via NFS - LinuxQuestions .org: Ya the answer is NO, because the NFS service is for sharing files and folders, or just a file system. but the device file is a special file used by the system, after it recognize the device using its driver. So even if you could share this file, it will not work at the other side, but if it is a usb storage, mount it first where you connected it, then try to share it across the network using NFS or SAMBA services.
